This course combines HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid, HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and HLTAID008 Manage first aid services and resources. Contact us for details.

This skill set provides a set of skills to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment, including the skills to provide an emergency first aid response in the event of an emergency.

HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid Includes:

DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines and First aid procedures for the following:

  • Abdominal injuries
  • Allergic reaction
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Basic care of a wound
  • Bleeding control
  • Burns, including thermal, chemical, friction and electrical
  • Cardiac conditions, including chest pain
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Crush injuries
  • Diabetes
  • Drowning
  • Emergency childbirth
  • Envenomation
  • Environmental impact including hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration and heat stroke
  • Eye and ear injuries
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Levels of consciousness
  • Needle stick injuries
  • Poisoning and toxic substances
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Seizures, including epilepsy
  • Shock
  • Skin injuries
  • Soft tissue musculoskeletal, including injuries including sprains, strains, dislocations and fractures

  • Substance misuse, including common drugs and alcohol, including illicit drugs
HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation Includes:

DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines

  • Airway obstruction due to body position
  • Appropriate duration and cessation of CPR
  • Appropriate use of an AED
  • Assessment and interpretation of vital signs (respirations, temperature and pulse)
  • Benefits, contraindications and complications with the use of an oropharyngeal airway
  • Chain of survival
  • How to conduct a visual and verbal secondary survey assessment
  • Standard precautions Managed the unconscious breathing casualty benefits, contraindications and complications of providing oxygen to a casualty and of providing suction during the application of advanced resuscitation techniques
  • Complications with the use of a bag-valve-mask device and suitable strategies to minimise these
  • Selection and operation of oxygen masks and other appropriate delivery devices
HLTAID008 Manage First Aid Services and Resources Includes:
  • State/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and workplace procedures
  • Workplace requirements for first aid provision in line with the relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety requirements
  • Duty of care in relation to first aid provision
  • Safe work practices dealing with risks and potential hazards including manual handling, hazardous substances, dangerous goods and chemicals
  • Infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions based on incident
  • Requirements for currency of skill and knowledge
  • Legal, workplace or community issues relating to the provision of CPR including:
  • Awareness of potential need for stress-management techniques and available support following an emergency situation
  • Consent
  • Capabilities of emergency management services
  • Privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Importance of debriefing.
On Successful Completion of the Course You will Receive:

Refresher Course

A refresher course is available if you hold a current HLTSS00027 Occupational Skill Set certificate in this case there is no pre-course theory to complete.

Pre-Course learning

Our course is blended with a pre-course theory component which will be mailed out to you. This must be completed prior to attending the face to face component of the course.

Course Times

Face to face training is approx. 30 hours and starts at 9 am

Please bring some paper and a pen if you wish to take notes. You are welcome to bring your lunch or you can purchase it at the Club.

What should I wear?

Please wear clothes that will enable you to conduct CPR on the floor

Assessment

There are both theory and practical assessment in this course to ensure that you have gained the required knowledge and ability to perform the skills in this unit.

  • Practical demonstrations/skills observations
  • Short answer questioning
  • Completion of an incident report

It is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed for 2 minutes on the floor.
